HEAVEN ON EARTH — 2019-2020
HEAVEN ON EARTH, 2019-2020, is an ongoing series of sculptures and digital photographs inspired by my ancestral home in Hangzhou, China, known for centuries within the Chinese imaginary as “heaven on earth”.
I make this work in search of the threads that connect me to what’s here and what’s there. Abstraction and the “poor image” are visual tools used in combination to express the core vibrations of melancholic loss, a phenomenon steeped in an ethereal, haunting ambiguity that is at the heart of this work.
