PEOPLE, PLACES, THINGS — 2019
During my time as Artist in Residence at Mutual Stores, a collective studio / project space + residency program in Oakland, CA, I did two things:
1. Tasked with incorporating the ceramic waste produced by Mutual Stores’ studio artists into my work, I made a group of site-sensitive sculptures that were exhibited in Mutual Stores’ storefront gallery space
2. With the help of Johnny Galvan, Brendan Page, and Maya Gulassa, I designed + printed a booklet containing photographs of objects from the above-mentioned show. This booklet was intended to be viewed in tandem to the show itself.
The work plays with notions of thingness, the poetics of space, our relationship as humans to objects, and the ways in which we simultaneously and reciprocally create, activate and are held by them.
